Just weeks ago, our beloved 20-year-old, Chinenye was full of energy, laughter, and dreams for the future. Then, sudden changes in her vision led us to the hospital, where doctors gave us the news no family ever wants to hear; she was diagnosed with left malignant osteogenic cancer — a rare, aggressive bone cancer that is threatening not only her health, but her very life. This cancer is spreading quickly. Doctors have told us that time is critical. The specialized treatment Chinenye desperately needs is not available in Nigeria — our only hope is to take her abroad to a hospital with the expertise and advanced care required to save her life. Every day we wait, the risk grows higher. Despite the pain and fear, Chinenye is showing extraordinary courage. She still smile, she still talk about her dreams — dream of becoming a registered nurse, but behind that smile, we know the clock is ticking. The reality is heartbreaking: The estimated cost of treatment, travel, and basic living expenses during her recovery is $25,000; this is far beyond what our family can carry. Chinenye’s father passed away suddenly just couple of years ago and our family is drained emotionally, physically, and financially, yet we refuse to give up hope.
